Weighing Scales 101

You are probably working on an assignment, reporting about weighing scales, or just plain curious about how weighing scales for sale in the Philippines work hence you were directed to this article.

No matter what your reason is, I will not disappoint! As follows are significant points to know about how weighing scales work:

What is weight?

Weight can be best defined by contrasting it with mass. Weight, in scientific definition, is the measurement of how much gravitational force acts upon an object. Mass, on the other hand, is the amount of matter present in the object. Mass is constant while weight is dependent on the force of gravity. Gravitational force varies slightly all over Earth, so weight varies. For instance, a 15kg child’s mass is the same here on Earth as it is on the moon, but his weight will be only a sixth as much when on the moon (gravity is one-sixth the strength on the moon as it is on Earth).

Hold that thought – that weight is dependent on the force of gravity – as that will make understanding the weighing process easier.

The weighing process

Scales measure how much force exists between the object being weighed and the Earth. The unit of measurement used, however, is that which is used for mass – kilograms, grams, pounds, etc. Scales measure the deflection that happens on the spring upon loading the object to be weighed. The force needed to deform the spring is measured and converted into weight.
